Apple’s approach to the artificial intelligence trend currently sweeping the tech industry is aptly called Apple Intelligence. While it may not be a standalone reason for users to purchase iPhones, it has introduced numerous AI features to the iPhone lineup, collaborating with some of the most prominent names in the field.

For example, Apple is working with OpenAI’s ChatGPT to enhance Siri for iPhone 15 Pro and newer models, making it more conversational. This partnership with ChatGPT has already faced scrutiny regarding data sharing, and now Apple aims to secure a stake in ChatGPT’s future by investing in OpenAI.

As reported by sources from the Wall Street Journal, Apple and NVIDIA are set to support OpenAI’s upcoming funding round. In 2019, Microsoft invested $13 billion in OpenAI and currently holds a 49% stake in the company’s future profits.

The upcoming funding round is anticipated to value OpenAI at nearly $100 billion, marking the highest valuation for a purely artificial intelligence venture to date.

Apple is reportedly looking to integrate its AI initiatives with ChatGPT for the long term, building on its expansion of the Siri assistant, along with enhancements in proofreading and emoji creation that it currently offers.

Conversely, NVIDIA is also committed to the long game, as its AI chips have helped it achieve the status of the world’s most valuable company since ChatGPT first generated text, much to the dismay of educators globally.

It remains unclear how much Apple intends to invest in OpenAI, as discussions are still in progress. However, the unveiling of the iPhone 16 on September 9 should provide a clearer indication of how much emphasis the company will place on AI features in general, particularly those that utilize ChatGPT.
