First Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 benchmark tops iPhone 15 Pro Max

If Samsung chooses to use Qualcomm’s more expensive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset over its own Exynos 2500 for the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could potentially outperform the iPhone 16 Pro Max in terms of processing speed.

The upcoming 2025 iPhone, which is expected to be the most expensive model, is rumored to feature an Apple A18 chipset that is slightly faster than the current A17 Profound in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Surprisingly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor recently outperformed the A17 Pro in a multi-core benchmark test.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, known as Manufacturer Model, made its debut on Geekbench and scored 2884 points in the single-core test, putting it on par with the A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro models. It is important to note that this benchmark was likely conducted on a reference device.

However, in the multi-core test, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scored 8840 points, making it the fastest chipset ever produced by Qualcomm and even surpassing Apple’s highly praised A-series processors.

This is due to the fact that Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is reportedly coming with a new custom core architecture consisting of custom Oryon CPU cores paired with a new Adreno GPU generation, which will result in a significant increase in speed.

The Adreno 750 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the Galaxy S24 Ultra is already faster than the graphics subsystem of Apple’s A17 Pro chipset in the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

However, Apple is expected to increase the GPU speeds in the new A18 series by up to 50%, so it is uncertain which processor will perform better in terms of graphics.

Qualcomm has assigned TSMC to use its latest N3P 3nm process to produce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, showcasing the impressive qualities of this production node with performance cores reaching over 4GHz in the Geekbench score details.

Despite the high clock speed, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is anticipated to have excellent energy efficiency, making us eager for Qualcomm’s unveiling event in October.
