Google will release a significant update to the core functions of ChromeOS to enhance wireless audio quality on Chromebooks, aiming to make it a stronger competitor against macOS and Windows.

Put simply (for Samsung users, for instance), this indicates that connecting your Galaxy Buds to your Galaxy Chromebook in the future will result in improved sound quality. It is anticipated that Google will integrate various aspects of Android technology into ChromeOS, such as utilizing Android’s Linux kernel and different frameworks. The Linux kernel serves as the central component of an operating system, overseeing all operations within the computer.

Google can enhance ChromeOS by incorporating advanced features from Android, improving compatibility with Android devices such as smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, as well as accessories like wireless earbuds. The latest update to ChromeOS, version 122, has already implemented changes utilizing Android’s Bluetooth system, Fluoride, instead of the traditional BlueZ system. This update, tested since 2021, offers higher-quality wireless audio options including AAC, aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC codecs for improved sound quality.

The new system also includes support for Bluetooth LE Audio, offering improved sound quality and reliability compared to the current default codec, SBC. Furthermore, ChromeOS will experience quicker pairing with devices, a more robust Bluetooth connection, and an enhanced testing process for these connections.
