Google introduces two new Gemini features in Gmail

Google has announced that two new Gemini features are now accessible to Gmail users on the web, Android, and iOS. One of these features aims to help users enhance their email drafts using AI assistance.

As an enhancement to the “Help me write” feature, Polish will refine email drafts on both web and mobile devices. This new functionality includes several additional options: Formalize, Elaborate, and Shorten. The newly introduced Polish option can transform rough notes into either a fully formal draft or a more detailed one. In addition to the Polish feature, Google has also introduced shortcuts for Helping me write and Refine my draft on Android and iOS devices.

This means that if you are using Gmail on an iOS or Android device, the “Help me write” shortcut will appear in the body of an email draft when it is empty. When selected, this shortcut will open the full writing experience.

Conversely, the “Refine my draft” shortcut will become visible when a minimum of 12 words has been written in an email draft. This shortcut will be displayed below the email content to indicate that additional options are available to Polish, Formalize, Elaborate, or Shorten your draft, or to create a new one. Remember that you need to swipe right on “Refine my draft” to access the menu containing all the aforementioned options.

Google states that this feature is enabled by default and cannot be turned off. The search giant also confirmed that the option to “Help me write” for refining email drafts, along with the shortcuts, is already available on both Android and iOS.

By the way, the new features and shortcuts are available to Google Workspace customers who have the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-ons, and Google One AI Premium.
