HMD plans a new mid-range smartphone

Finnish handset manufacturer HMD has several devices in the pipeline, though none appear to be high-end models. Following the launches of the Skyline and Crest, HMD is preparing to introduce a … basic phone. The HMD Barbie seems to be a collaborative effort to rebrand the Nokia 2660 Flip into an attractive clamshell design.

Additionally, HMD is expected to release another mid-range smartphone by the year’s end. An official-looking image and the specifications of the unannounced HMD Hyper were leaked on Twitter earlier today, indicating that an official announcement might be imminent.

In terms of design, the Hyper closely resembles the HMD Skyline, which in turn looks a lot like the Lumia series. The main difference is that the camera island on the Hyper is slightly smaller, but otherwise, the two models are quite similar in appearance. When it comes to specifications, the Hyper appears to be the less capable phone based on the leaked details.

For example, the HMD Hyper is rumored to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, while the Skyline boasts the more advanced Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset.

Moreover, the HMD Hyper is reported to come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (expandable via microSD card), along with a substantial 4,700 mAh battery that supports 33W wired charging.

The HMD Hyper features a triple camera system comprising 50MP, 13MP, and 8MP lenses. Additionally, it has a 50-megapixel front-facing selfie camera positioned within the punch-hole cutout.

Unfortunately, the leaker does not provide information about the display size. However, the specifications indicate that it features an OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Additionally, there is no information regarding the price and release date, but it is expected to be more affordable than the HMD Skyline.

Just so you know, the Skyline is currently priced at approximately $500 / €550, so the Hyper should be significantly cheaper.
