Leaked OnePlus Watch may be upgraded 2R

Over the past few weeks, there have been numerous leaks regarding a new OnePlus smartwatch. Although many were expecting it to be the OnePlus Watch 3, a recent report indicates otherwise.

The OnePlus smartwatch with LTE that was leaked may be revealed under the name OnePlus Watch 2R.

A new tip from the well-known and reliable leaker Max Jambor suggests that OnePlus will release their recently leaked smartwatch as the OnePlus Watch 2R. With Jambor not providing further information, the rumours of a delay for the OnePlus Watch 3 now seem more plausible. This is because the smartwatch that has been widely discussed may actually be the OnePlus Watch 2R, rather than the anticipated OnePlus Watch 3.

Additionally, clues from previous leaks indicate that this is more likely to be a revised edition of the OnePlus Watch 2 than a completely new flagship model.

Based on the information available, the speculated OnePlus Watch 2R is anticipated to have a similar design, including a circular dial and two buttons on the right side. Certification listings suggest it may also have the same 500mAh battery and 10W charging as the current model.

The main difference between the OnePlus Watch 2 and the 2R seems to be the inclusion of eSIM support for LTE connectivity, a feature that was noticeably missing in the OnePlus Watch 2.

The new smartwatch, which has appeared on the TENAA certification website, will include LTE connectivity for e-SIMs that are compatible with Chinese telecom providers. It will also support Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, GLONASS, and WLAN.

With the upcoming smartwatch having cleared certification, it appears that an official announcement may be imminent. Nonetheless, OnePlus may choose to launch it first in China and India, leaving the global release date uncertain.

The Chinese company released the OnePlus Watch 2 in February earlier this year, so it would be illogical for the next model to come out shortly after. However, introducing a revised version of the OnePlus 2 with e-SIM support could be a strategic move, considering one of the current watch’s downsides is its absence of cellular connectivity.

Introducing a smartwatch with cellular connectivity would be a smart move for OnePlus if they want to improve their chances against competitors such as the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic or Google Pixel Watch 2.
