No more updates for the 2020 Galaxy budget battery champ

Here is another 2020 phone that no longer receives updates: the Galaxy A21s. It’s unbelievable how quickly time passes, as if 2020 was just yesterday…

The Galaxy A21s was a popular budget-friendly handset, thanks to its impressive battery life and decent camera performance during the day. However, it did have some drawbacks such as disappointing display resolution and color accuracy, a weak loudspeaker with no stereo, and limited gaming capabilities.

Currently, the Samsung experts from the Netherlands, the always informative Galaxy Club site, have reported that Samsung has chosen to discontinue updates for the Galaxy A21s.

Samsung started providing five years of updates for its phones in 2021 and 2022, an improvement from the previous four-year support for most Galaxy models in 2020. The Galaxy S20 and other high-end models now benefit from this extended support, but mid-range models like the Galaxy A41, A51, and A71 will only receive updates until 2024. Additionally, the Galaxy A21s is no longer included in the list of supported phones.

The Galaxy A21s has been consistently updated since it was released, with enhancements to Android versions 11 and 12, as well as regular security updates. Currently, the device is operating on firmware version A217FXXSCDXE2 and has the May 2024 security patch.

Samsung originally committed to providing four years of support for the Galaxy A21s, but no further updates are expected. Although updates may be released in the future, Samsung has not guaranteed any.

There is no immediate need for current Galaxy A21s users to take any action as the phone is still secure and functional. Common apps, such as banking apps, are still operational on Android 12. Furthermore, Google Play system updates will ensure security for important components for the next few years. The Galaxy A21s now has access to the Google Play system update released on May 1, 2024.
