A long-time iPhone user who is not interested in trying out an Android foldable device.
For many years, I have been a satisfied user of iPhones because I value the smooth and polished user experience they provide. The iPhone 13 Pro I recently used may not have been the latest model, but it was still fast, capable, and sophisticated – everything one could desire in a smartphone.
Since I was heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, transitioning to Android phones posed challenges, particularly when it came to transferring photo libraries, apps, and other data. This often discouraged those considering switching camps.
Recently, I made the decision to try out the OnePlus Open. I had limited experience with foldable phones before, mainly because I was worried about their fragility. However, the OnePlus Open seemed to be a more refined and reliable device compared to the earlier generations of the Galaxy Fold. This led me to cautiously decide to give it a try.
Falling in love with the irresistible OnePlus Open!

My initial skepticism towards foldable phones gradually diminished as I spent a few days with the OnePlus Open. After struggling to incorporate a tablet into my daily routine – I desired a device more powerful than a phone yet less bulky than a laptop – the innovative foldable design of the OnePlus Open proved to be just what I needed. This product could easily fit in my pocket and then transform into a much larger and more capable screen when unfolded.
The foldable’s true power lies in improving your daily experience.

The foldable experience offered by the OnePlus Open is truly revolutionary. Basic tasks like reading, editing documents, viewing media, gaming, and scheduling are now easier and faster. A foldable phone allows you to do everything a regular phone does, but with added convenience, speed, and versatility. This device could easily be considered the ultimate professional phone.
Using a foldable device can make you feel like the professional user that you are.

The OnePlus Open is packed with impressive multitasking abilities, particularly for individuals transitioning from an iPhone. OnePlus has not only incorporated Android’s usual features for foldable devices but has also improved them with Open Canvas, a feature that enables the seamless switching between multiple large-screen applications.
By adding floating app windows to the phone, you can envision the multitude of possibilities for using it in innovative ways. I currently take advantage of certain foldable features on a daily basis, such as the increased typing speed with a larger keyboard, the enhanced gaming experience with a bigger screen, and the ability to easily manage my calendar. While I have yet to fully utilize advanced multitasking capabilities, knowing that these features are available is satisfying.
Switching between iOS and Android is no longer as difficult as it once was.
Many individuals inquired about my transition from iOS to Android, and surprisingly, it went incredibly smoothly. I was fortunate to have my contacts and calendar already synced with my Google account, which made the switch easier. After reviewing the apps I frequently used, I realized that most were compatible with both platforms. Additionally, the few apps I had to repurchase on Android were minimal and did not significantly impact my finances.
The main challenge when transitioning between platforms is typically transferring all your photos and videos from one cloud service to another. In my situation, I needed to move my photos from iCloud Photos to Google Photos. To my surprise, Apple offers a website that allows for a seamless transfer of your entire library to a different cloud service. Conversely, Google provides a Takeout portal that allows you to export all your Google account information, including your photo and video library, for easy uploading to iCloud Photos if desired.

- Visit this place if you want to transfer data from your iCloud account.
- Visit this location if you want to export data from your Google account.
I would guess that either regulators required the two companies to develop these solutions, or they were created as a precautionary measure to avoid potential regulatory issues in the future. Regardless of the reason, within a couple of days, all of my photo and video content appeared in my Google Photos account on the OnePlus Open. How amazing is that? I just needed to make sure I had purchased sufficient cloud storage with Google to ensure all the content could be transferred there.
The major trade-off is between bulk and capability.

Naturally, the iPhone 13 Pro I had prior to switching to the OnePlus Open is significantly thinner and lighter. Foldable phones tend to be bulky, especially when a case is added, which is recommended.
I believe that whether or not you will be satisfied with a deal, transaction, or product depends on what you gain compared to what you lose.
When it comes to a modern foldable phone like the OnePlus Open, I am willing to accept a larger, thicker, and heavier device because of the added capabilities and power it provides. For me, it is a worthwhile trade-off. However, if you do not require a phone with a larger screen for increased functionality or prefer a digital detox, switching to a foldable phone may not be a good decision as you may not benefit from the enhanced capabilities of the larger internal screen.
The OnePlus Open and the upcoming era of foldable smartphones.
In the end, it was the highly equipped and powerful OnePlus Open foldable phone that convinced me to switch from my iPhone. Although the OnePlus experience has its flaws, the Open’s numerous strengths far outweigh the few drawbacks I have come across.
Yes, my wife enjoys teasing me about how carefully I handle my cherished foldable phone, but I am more convinced than ever that with some additional effort, foldables will gradually dominate the luxury phone market in the coming years. Brands such as OnePlus/Oppo, Samsung, Honor, and others simply need to continue improving their reliability and, most crucially, accessibility.
As foldable technology advances further, I predict that Apple will release a foldable iPhone in the market. The recent success of the OnePlus Open demonstrates the significant progress in foldable technology. Transitioning from being a loyal iPhone user to embracing the OnePlus Open has been a revealing experience, solidifying my belief in the promising future of foldable devices.
