Samsung hints at 16GB Galaxy S25 Ultra RAM with new thin AI memory chips

Samsung has recently announced the beginning of mass production for the world’s thinnest mobile device memory chips.

These chips are designed to enable on-device AI in phones in a compact form. The new 12-nanometer LPDDR5X RAM chips are only 0.65mm thick but offer higher density and improved heat resistance. Samsung states that these chips are specifically made for the challenging tasks that on-device AI will require in future phones.

Samsung has set a new standard for high-performance on-device AI solutions with its LPDDR5X DRAM, which not only provides superior LPDDR performance but also includes advanced thermal management in a compact package.

These RAM chips are likely to be used in the Galaxy S25 series as well, and Samsung has indirectly confirmed the rumors about the Galaxy S25 Ultra having more RAM.

The new 12nm memory chips, which are thinner than a credit card, will come in both 12GB and 16GB LPDDR5X DRAM packaging.

This somewhat confirms the speculation that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature 16GB RAM, marking the first time since the Galaxy S21 series.

The controversy surrounding the exclusive launch of Apple Intelligence on the priciest iPhone 15 Pro models indicates that RAM is crucial for AI operations.

Craig Federighi of Apple has essentially confirmed that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus lack Apple Intelligence not due to slower processors, but because they only have 6GB of RAM, while 8GB seems to be the minimum requirement.

To address this, Apple plans to equip the upcoming iPhone 16 with 8GB of RAM, marking the first time this feature will be available in a budget-friendly iPhone.
