Vivo V40 is in for review

The Vivo V40 is currently available for purchase in Europe, and we now have a unit on hand for review. This phone shares many features with its six-month-old predecessor but includes upgrades such as a 5,500 mAh battery and a camera enhanced with expertise from Zeiss.

The Vivo V40 we possess is the Nebula Purple variant, which feels pleasant to hold. However, we were disheartened to discover that there was no charger included in the retail package. Therefore, if you wish to utilize the phone’s 80W wired charging capability, you’ll need to provide the necessary charger yourself.

The design of the V40 is likely to be divisive due to its unique camera island. The same can be said for the distinctive finish on the back, which has a texture that feels like a blend of sand and satin.

The Upfront features a beautiful 6.78” AMOLED display with curved edges. In an era dominated by flat frames and screens, enthusiasts of curved displays have limited choices these days, so they are likely to value this option.

The 120 Hz display appears bright, but the 4,500 nits specified in the official specifications are probably not realistically achievable in everyday use – we will definitely investigate that. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset seems to be performing well, and the phone feels quite responsive during these initial moments.

The Vivo V40 features two 50 MP cameras on the rear: a primary camera equipped with a 1/1.56″ sensor and an ultrawide camera with a 1/2.76″ imager. We will evaluate their performance once we complete the review.

The Aura Light has become a distinctive hallmark of the series; however, we will need to determine whether the new shape of the camera island impacts its performance. The vivo V40 is priced at €500, and its hardware appears to be appropriate for that price range. We’ll have to wait to see if its real-world performance lives up to expectations as well.
