Mate XT tri-fold teased in new Huawei promo ahead of launch

Huawei is anticipated to unveil its tri-foldable Mate XT next week on Tuesday, September 10th. We have already caught glimpses of the device in the wild. When fully opened, the phone boasts an impressive 10-inch display and measures less than 5mm in thickness. Naturally, Huawei’s own HarmonyOS comes pre-installed, and the rear cameras are situated within an octagon-shaped camera module on the back of the foldable device. Richard Yu, the long-time head of consumer business at Huawei, remarked, “This is a product that others may have envisioned but couldn’t bring to fruition.

We’ve transformed science fiction into reality. Stay tuned for Huawei’s masterpiece!” The Mate XT is expected to come equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. A teaser video for the Huawei Mate XT has been released, showing the device with its rear panel facing up while a movie editor runs a reel through his equipment. The Mate XT appears to feature a rear panel made from a leather-like material.

For a fleeting moment, we observe the movie editor gazing at the internal display of the tri-fold device with all three screens active. It’s important to note that this phone will not be released in the U.S., and even if you import it to the U.K., it will not support Google Play services.

Speculation indicates that the phone may be priced at approximately $4,000, which is nearly twice the cost of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, what other aspects might also see a doubling in this device?

Perhaps the number of creases that negatively impact the experience of using the 10-inch internal screen. Nevertheless, considering Huawei’s history of innovation despite U.S. sanctions, it is possible that the company has discovered a way to eliminate or reduce the severity of these creases.

One important detail that remains unknown is which Kirin chip will power the device. Huawei has the capability to design 5G chips, which are produced by China’s largest foundry, SMIC. However, this foundry appears to be limited to 7nm production, which is two generations behind the 3nm chipsets manufactured by TSMC and Samsung Foundry.
