Samsung is preparing to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which is a thinner and more streamlined version of the recently released Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Initial reports suggested that this special edition foldable would not support the S Pen stylus, unlike its counterpart. However, a new leak from a credible source indicates that Samsung may have discovered a way to include S Pen support in the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition after all. Ice Universe, a well-known leaker on X (formerly Twitter), has disclosed that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will indeed be compatible with the S Pen stylus.
However, this compatibility will not feature a built-in slot or holder for the S Pen. Instead, it will be designed to work with the stylus that Samsung sells separately, much like the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
While the details are still vague, another credible source, Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), has suggested that Samsung may need to adopt innovative approaches to facilitate S Pen support for the Z Fold Special Edition.
This need arises because the upcoming foldable might not include a digitizer, largely due to concerns regarding thickness and cost.
The lack of a digitizer could restrict some of the more advanced S Pen functionalities when paired with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, potentially resulting in only basic passive stylus capabilities that utilize capacitive touch instead of active pen technology. However, considering the premium nature of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, it seems improbable that Samsung would choose such a simplified implementation.
Additionally, there may be a drawback; reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition could be limited to release in China and South Korea, restricting its availability in other regions.
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition presents an exciting opportunity for those interested in a thinner and lighter foldable smartphone experience, possibly featuring S Pen support. While the precise specifications and features of the device remain unclear, recent leaks have certainly generated enthusiasm among tech fans. As a foldable enthusiast, this is definitely a device I plan to monitor closely.
